Problem: The original course exceeded two hours and relied heavily on long screencasts from an external provider, alongside multiple disconnected documents. This created high cognitive load, low engagement, and a poor user experience for new starters trying to learn a practical tool.

Goal: The goal was to reduce seat time, simplify the learning journey, and help employees build confidence in using Microsoft Teams as quickly as possible.

Outcome

I reduced the course from 2+ hours to under 20 minutes (~85% reduction in seat time) by removing redundant content and focusing only on essential tasks. The content was restructured to mirror the Microsoft Teams interface, allowing learners to follow along intuitively within the tool and reinforcing real-world application. I applied a chunking approach to break information into clear, manageable steps, reducing cognitive load and improving retention. Instead of relying on lengthy screencasts, I curated short, high-quality videos and integrated light interactivity with a focused knowledge check to reinforce key actions without adding unnecessary friction. As a result, the course became significantly easier to navigate and complete. Learners engaged with the content more effectively, reported higher satisfaction, and were able to start using Microsoft Teams with greater confidence immediately after onboarding.
